Fall Fun

Unfortunately, Fall means that Winter is approaching. Aside from that, it's a fun time of year. My boy and I went to Gettysburg this past weekend to climb on some big rocks and enjoy the weather.

On the way back to Baltimore, we grabbed the most misshapen pumpkin we could find from a farmer's market. I carved it that night!

I gave him ears and sideburns.
I think the opening I made to scoop out his brains kind of looks like a yarmulke.

He's not as cute in the dark.

High Grounds Coffee Label

Last semester I took a class called Handletters. We were given an assignment to design a hand-lettered and illustrated coffee label for a locally-owned Baltimore coffee roaster, High Grounds.

My design was chosen to be printed on their coffee bags,
and they are now on sale at two Whole Foods stores in Baltimore!

I was so excited, I had to take a picture of my bag on the shelf in the store!

There was only one of my design left (I guess that's good) and I bought it.
Hopefully they'll restock soon!

I brought the bag home and immediately put it in the freezer, next to some tater tots:

Mmmmm, coffee.

Senior Thesis

So midterms are quickly approaching, and I have yet to blog about Senior Thesis! I've been working on making box constructions that will be used as illustrations for a Russian folk tale: Egor the Brave.

My hope is that these will be readable as illustrations, but also interestingly esoteric and strong enough to stand alone as individual artworks.

This is my messy studio. I get lots of splinters, and occasionally glue in my hair.

The first two boxes I've completed are actually the third and fourth pages of the story. They both occupy the same construction, though for the final presentation (which will be in book format) they will most likely be seen as separate pages, like so:

Page Three, Egor's torture and imprisonment scene.

Some details:

Page Four, Sofiia the Wise appears as an apparition, setting Egor free.

And some details:

If only blogger didn't make all my photos look extra washed out.

Oh well, more on Egor soon!
