Scooter and Carl Do Cincinnati
Last Spring semester I had the pleasure of doing an independent study with Ted McGrath, and he helped me to make these "action figures." They are more like sculptures, or mock-ups for vinyl toys that will likely never be. They are based on a series of ten collage sketches I did earlier in the year... other characters like "Dr. Singh, Male Gynocologist" and "Ben the Lonely Spaceman" never made it to the third dimension. Scooter and Carl started like this:
And by the end of the semester, they became who they are today:

read the Carl's comic!

The figures and accessories are clay over wire armatures, with hand-sewn little shirts and clothes. The boxes were constructed of mat board and painted with goache and ink.
Scooter and Carl are currently en route to Cincinnati to see my friends at Static Age! They will be in a show called "Pairs," so if you are in the area, go check it out! Scooter and Carl are just for looks, but I'll have things for sale there too.

I'll leave you with this GIF I made when I was sculpting Scooter's skinny nude body:

Buzz, Your Girlfriend...
Woof.
What a busy couple weeks! Finals are done. I need to update this sucka' for real. Soon! Tomorrow. TOMORROW.
It was both my birthday and Mother's Day on Sunday. Twenty-three years young.
On my birthday I:
drove home to Baltimore from my mom's in PA, ate a pear and gorgonzola pizza and a McFlurry with extra Oreos for dessert, saw Exit Through the Gift Shop, and started to put a puzzle from 1971 together. Now that's my kind of party.

My wonderful boyfriend got me my dream gift:
Except mine has Swarowski crystals shoddily glued to his eyes, bowtie, tail and hooksocks
(non Brad Neely fans read: kitty claws.)
Seriously, he's so glittery and flossin'.
Thus begins my official Kit-Cat addiction, because now he looks lonely,
and I'll at the very least need this sort of setup:

Wood paneling included, of course.

Gifs
Gifs are very important to me. Especially those that involve cute animals.
And just for good measure:
Yeah. I don't know. You're welcome?

I guess I'll become a regular member of the internet again.
I can't wait to team up this brand new blog with my brand new, not-yet-up-or-running website, http://emmamaatman.com/.
In the meantime, I'd like to discuss my current infatuation with NES games. I never owned any type of gaming console growing up, but occasionally I got to play my neighbor's Super Nintedo, or my cousin's Sega Genesis. Only now have I experienced the glorious simplicity of the original Nintendo games. My favorites are the arcade-style games with simple concepts and graphics, such as:
Bugertime!

This gem was the first game to steal my heart. Who can resist a game in which you are a burger chef, being relentlessly pursued by adorable little hot dogs? By the way, the cuteness of a game's characters is a definitive factor in whether or not I deem it playable or worthwhile.

MappyLand!
A follow-up to MAPPY, Mappy-Land is some kind of beautiful, flat, kindergarten-colored wonderland where the foreground is the background and you are a policemouse being chased by tiny pink cats.

Q-Bert!

Last but not least, the arcade classic known as Q-Bert. Anything on an isometric platform is a-ok in my book. Q-Bert appeals to one's nerdy architectural sensibilities, and it's also totally bonkers. Why am I a meatball with a tube hanging out of me? Seems dangerous to just leave that tube hangin' around like that. Either way, this game is fun.
